Why This Isn't Therapy, and Why That's the Point

chain-3 desire Jul 05, 2026

People ask me some version of this fairly often: is this basically therapy? I get why. Both involve sitting with someone and talking honestly about what's actually going on. Both can bring up real things. So it's a fair question, and it deserves a real answer instead of a brush-off.

Here's the honest version: no, and the difference matters more than it might look like from the outside.

What therapy is genuinely good at

I'm not here to talk anyone out of therapy. It's often exactly the right tool, especially for processing something specific, understanding where a pattern came from, or working through something that needs real clinical support. If that's what you need, please go get it. This isn't a competition, and it's not a replacement.

Therapy tends to work by looking back. Where did this start, what happened, how did you learn to survive it. That's valuable work, and for a lot of people it's necessary before anything else can happen.

What we do instead

The work I do lives somewhere else. Less "where did this come from," more "what's actually running your Tuesday, right now, and what happens if you loosen the grip on it this week instead of eventually."

If you've read anything else I've written, you already know the pattern I keep coming back to. Waiting for someone else's permission before a decision counts. I wrote about that here. Defaulting instead of actually choosing, over and over, until the default looks like personality. More on that here. Those patterns don't need to be traced back to their origin story before they can loosen. They need to be caught in real time, in your actual week, while they're happening, not months later in a session that's mostly about the past.

Why the intake matters more than people expect

Before we ever talk, I ask you to actually write down where you are, what you want to feel instead, and what your life looks like when this is resolved. Most people find that part alone clarifying, before we've had a single session.

Then the sessions themselves aren't scripted. I'm not running you through a fixed curriculum, because your patterns don't show up on a schedule either. Some weeks it's the permission thing. Some weeks it's a default you didn't notice until it already cost you something. We work with whatever's actually live that week.

Nothing has gone wrong, and nothing has to burn down

I want to say this plainly, the same as I've said it in everything else I write. You're not broken, and you don't need six months of processing before you're allowed to feel different. The situation you're in right now isn't the problem. The belief still quietly running it is. That's a smaller thing to work with than it sounds like, and it can move faster than most people expect.

The Reset Project

This is the work inside The Reset Project. Ninety days, private coaching sessions, weekly or every other week, built around whatever's actually happening in your life that week instead of a set curriculum. It's not therapy, and it's not a productivity system either. It's built specifically for noticing and loosening the grip on the exact kind of pattern this whole chain has been about.

If this is sounding familiar, the next step is a free Mindset Reset Call. We'll talk through what's actually running underneath the specific thing you've been sitting with, and you'll know by the end of it whether this is the right fit. Book a Mindset Reset Call →

Not ready for a conversation yet? The Decision Confidence Scorecard is a quick way to see where your own decision-making feels steady, and where it's quietly costing you more than it should. Take the Scorecard →
